This morning, we can our friends Connor and Cooper P play in the cubby house. In the cubby house, the boys were talking about what Cooper P got for his birthday, because today was his birthday! Happy birthday Cooper P! On the tables, Leilani, Nisha, Elke and Grace were drawing. The children were drawing people such as their friends and family. In the sandpit, Shion enjoyed playing with the cars. He was driving his car along the sandy road. On the veranda, we had some music that was playing. Thomas, Cooper T, Nash, Daniella, CC, Bonnie, Alaska and Spencer were enjoying the music so much that they were dancing and playing musical instruments along with the music.
For group time this morning, we completed our Acknowledgement to country. Then, the children picked out the ‘Days of the Week Song.” After singing the song, we completed our daily calendar/weather chart.
For activity time, we had a name-writing activity where the children used their fingers to write their names in the salt. Under the salt, was rainbow paper where the colours would appear under their writing. Lillian, Charlie, Ben, Shion and Nisha especially enjoyed this activity. Leilani enjoyed the arts and crafts table where she was tracing the shapes of the scrap paper. Daniella and CC were playing with the food-memory game. The girls were taking turns to see who could get the most matches. Angelo and Lewis also enjoyed this activity. Bonnie and Elke had lots of fun playing with the dolls house. The girls were playing families and were pretending to be different family members. Rie, Alaska, and Grace enjoyed painting a big spider. Lillian asked yesterday if we could make a spider, so we had a large spider body to paint using corks. It was so fun! Aristotelis, Nash, Connor were playing with the train set. The children were using as many pieces as they could to create a very long track for their trains. Spencer, Thomas and Cooper P were at the cars table playing with the cars. The children were driving their cars along the table and racing each other. They even got the bridges from the train set to create ramps for their cars.
We had Arakan this morning. We first began our lesson by standing in their stance as they stood in a line. The children then had a turn in hitting the bag with their hands. The children had to make sure that they were listening to our instructor when he asked for their specific hands. The children concluded their lesson with a game where some friends were able to stand on the side and throw balls trying to catch the children who were running around.
On the mat, we had Thomas share his Show and Tell. He shared the things that they were thankful for. In Kindergarten 2, we love sharing and hearing about the things we and our friends are thankful for. CC then chose a sea-animal for us to learn about. She chose the starfish. First, we began to discuss what we already knew about the starfish. We knew that most of them have 5 legs, they have suction cups like octopus and their mouth is underneath their body. To find out more about starfish, we watched a video. We found out that there are over 5000 types of starfish around the world. We also found out that birds, crabs and otters like to eat starfish. Lastly, we found out that their bodies are hard to protect them from their prey.
For the table activities, the children enjoyed Halloween pre-writing drawings, connecting shapes, magnetic letters, drawings and puzzles.
Next, we picked out the phonics song that we wanted to sing and chose our sound of the day. The sound of the day today is the letter K. We watched the letter K song and then we came up with all the words that began with this letter such as Kitty Pryde, kite and key. When we finished coming up with the words, we counted how many we found and repeated after Miss Jade, all the words that we found. To end our group time, we practiced our graduation songs.
