Outside this morning, Alaska, Elke, Ben and Nisha were playing in the sandpit. The children were digging holes and scooping sand into bottles and cups. Fynn came dressed up as a ‘Whoopie Cushion’ today so he and his friends were playing a game where he had to chase them around the sandpit. Thomas, Cooper T, Nisha, Alaska, Steve and Elke were running away from Fynn. Cooper P, Cooper T, Fynn, Nash and Archie were building an obstacle course. The children worked collaboratively to create a course out of items they could find around the yard. The course went around the entire sandpit.
For group time this morning, we completed our Acknowledgement to country. Nash chose the flag of the day, which was Ecuador. We explored their flag and the colours of it. Then, we searched it up and looked at the country on the map. We found out that it was located in South America and they speak Spanish. Daniella told us that to say hello in Spanish, they say ‘Hola.’ We got to complete our roll in Spanish. Then Aristotelis chose our morning song and we sang our ‘Days of the Week Song.” After singing the song, we completed our daily calendar/weather chart.
For activity, Miss Jade set out another Halloween activity for the children. We had red spaghetti that was covered in flies, spiders and cockroaches. The children used scissors and tongs to manipulate the spaghetti. It was so slimy! Shion, Daniella and Bonnie enjoyed picking up the spaghetti in their hands. Abigail and Cooper T enjoyed the rice activity. The children had to use the salad mixers to pick up letters and match it to its’ lowercase letter. There were spiders, bats, worms, eyes and centipedes in this activity. Aristotelis, Nash, Fynn, Archie, Connor enjoyed building cars and trucks with all sorts of parts. They then got to drive their transports around the room. Charlie enjoyed the train set. He was connecting the tracks together to create a track for his trains. Nisha, Alaska, Elke and Grace were at the Arts and Crafts table creating some pieces of work. The girls especially enjoyed using the googly-eyes to create eyes for their pictures such as Grace’s family. Rie was working hard at the table completing the number puzzle. She had to match the numeral with the corresponding amount of pictures. She worked really quickly to complete the puzzles. Eric, Steve, Thomas, Cooper P and Cooper T enjoyed the cars. The children were using the car table to drive them along the roads and even used book corner and the tree for the cars to drive on.
For group time, we explored Halloween. We first began by discussing what Halloween was. Our friends told us that Halloween is a special night where you can go Trick or Treating. That meant that you dress up in your favourite costume and take a bucket with you to knock and people’s houses and say, “Trick or Treat.” When you say that, some people will give you lollies. We also spoke about making sure that we always go Trick or Treating with an adult and to never go into other people’s houses.
Miss Haley came to teach our yoga lesson today. She played on an audio story of “We’re going on a dragon hunt.” We had to listen to the story and when we got to various locations, we had to complete that particular yoga pose. It was great fun as it was a new experience for us all.
For the table activities, the children enjoyed connecting flowers, writing table, world puzzle, drawing and shape patterns.
Next, we picked out the phonics song that we wanted to sing. Then, we went through each letter of the alphabet and the sounds that it made. To conclude our group time, we sat in a circle to play the dancing-letter-matching game. It was so fun as children were practicing their dancing, their letters and resilience.
