This morning outside, we had our friends Bonnie, Lillian, Daniella, CC and Tali at the tables completing drawings and some colouring-in. Archie, Fynn, Connor, Cooper P and Cooper T were at the side of the sandpit creating towers out of the blocks. The children were creating a Fortnite tower as they were trying to place the blocks carefully onto the building without knocking anything over.
For group time this morning, we completed our Acknowledgement to country. Then, we sang our ‘Days of the Week Song.” After singing the song, we completed our daily calendar/weather chart.
For activity time, Sofia and Daniella enjoyed the Writing Table, At this table, Sofia was pretending to be a teacher, while Daniella was pretending to be her student. On the mat, Emmett enjoyed playing with the Gruffalo cards. He placed them all facing down and tried to find matching pairs. Fynn and Bonnie enjoyed playing memory with Mr Don. They sat in a circle and took turns to find matching pairs of the same food. CC and Lewis were at the table completing the peg boards. The children enjoyed using their fine-motor skills to pick up the pins and place them carefully into the board to create patterns and pictures. Lillian and Tali were at the Arts and Crafts table. Tail was colouring in a picture of a zoo, while Lillian was drawing her toy. Spencer, Archie and Cooper T enjoyed the marble run. They were working together to build a track and then when they were finished, they raced their marbles to see whose came first.
Mr Trevor came to teach some of the children tennis. Cooper P, Aristotelis, Shion, Eric, Steve and Connor enjoyed Mr Trevor’s lesson. The children practiced catching balls and had so much fun using their tennis racquets to hit as many tennis balls as they could.
We also had Miss Mackenzie and Miss Vee come to teach us Art today. Miss Vee began our lesson with a book. This book was called ‘Lifetimes.’ This book explored grief and loss by looking at lifespans for plants, animals and people. It helps us remember, understand and explain that all life as a beginning and end. For their art activity, the children began by collaging their paper and stuck on various colours of paper to signify life and also some dead leaves.
On the mat, we had Sofia share her Show and Tell. She shared the things that they were thankful for. In Kindergarten 2, we love sharing and hearing about the things we and our friends are thankful for. Archie then chose a sea-animal for us to learn about. He chose the Coral Sea Snake. First, we began to discuss what we already knew about the starfish. We knew that some snakes were stripey. Sea snakes are different to normal snakes because normal snakes cannot swim and only stay on land. We also knew that Coral Sea Snakes live near the bottom of the ocean, close to the coral. We then watched a video about coral sea snakes. We learnt that coral sea snakes can be venomous and eat food such as fish, fish eggs and even eels. There are over 30 types of sea snakes that live In the waters and can range from many sizes.
For the table activities, the children enjoyed connecting flowers, food memory game, writing table, floor puzzles and drawing.
Next, we picked out the phonics song that we wanted to sing and chose our sound of the day. The sound of the day today is the letter S. We watched the letter S song and then we came up with all the words that began with this letter such as Spiderman, September, and soccer. When we finished coming up with the words, we counted how many we found and repeated after Miss Jade, all the words that we found. We found 33 words! To end our group time, we practiced our graduation songs.
