During outside play, we had a few more friends come to kindy dressed up in Halloween costumes. Fynn, Archie, Connor, Cooper T, Cooper P and Archie were playing a game where Archie and Fynn had to catch the ‘bad guys’ as Archie was dressed as a sheriff and Fynn as a Ghostbuster. Alaska and Shion were in the sandpit/ Alaska was using the sieve to find all the dirt and rocks while Shion was digging a big hole in the sandpit.
For group time this morning, we completed our Acknowledgement to country. Miss Alex thought it would be a great idea to learn about Brazil so she discussed the location of the country, what language they speak and some special traditions that they do. The children even got to dance to some Brazilian music. It was so fun! Then the children chose our morning song and we sang our ‘Days of the Week Song.” After singing the song, we completed our daily calendar/weather chart.
For activity time, we continued with the Halloween water play. Today, we had various scoops for the children to use, some bowls, skeletons, googly eyes, centipedes, spiders, bats and worms. The children enjoyed this sensory activity as they were scooping up the water and items. Emmett, Archie, Fynn, Shion, Lillian, Alaska and Bonnie loved this activity. Tali, CC, Daniella, Abigail and Sofia enjoyed the drawing table where the children would complete some colouring in and drawing of their friends. Bonnie, Daniella and Lillian also loved the writing activity where the children had to trace their first and last name. This was a great activity to practice identifying their last names. Lewis and Connor enjoyed the floor puzzles. This puzzle was one of the world with various animals, people and places. The children have completed this puzzle a few times and it is obvious that they are getting faster at completing it. Steve, Aristotelis, Eric, Spencer, Cooper T and Cooper P enjoyed the cars. The children used the Halloween cups to build a tower and then smash the cars through it.
We had Art Therapy with Miss Vee today. We sat on the carpet to listen to a story called, ‘I am human.’ This book explored life and all the possibilities presented. Through these possibilities we learn, dream and make mistakes. From these experiences we discover emotions and feelings. For the art activity, the children created an emotion creature from oil pastel scribbles, either looking at happy, sad, angry or fearful. Adding a mouth and eyes to represent their appropriate facial expression for their emotional experience.
This week for Show and Tell, our theme is ‘Collections.’ Sofia shared her collections and it was so interesting to see what she collected. We love how each person is unique and will collect different things. Thank you for sharing! After Show and Tell, we engaged in a song and dance for the number 1-20. We then sat in a circle and helped Miss Jade order the numbers from lowest to highest. To conclude the activity, each child was given a number and they had to work together to try and place them in the correct order without Miss Jade’s help.
For the table activities, the children enjoyed connecting flowers, writing table, connecting shapes, alphabet game, animals and floor puzzles.
Next, we picked out the phonics song that we wanted to sing. Next, we went through the sounds of each letter and identified the name of it. We then played a matching game where we had to match the capital letter to its’ lowercase letter. To conclude our group time, we went over a few CVC words to try and decode the sounds.
